Multidisciplinary creative studio Los York is hosting the latest segment of their ongoing Camera Club series, held over Zoom on Thursday, May 6 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM PDT.

Titled From Commercials to Conflict Zones, the event will feature a conversation with DP and Photographer Zach Lowry about how he uses his creative talent in a world-changing way. Diving into the stories behind his photographs, Lowry will share his experience documenting political revolution and conflict, and how he balances this work with commercial filmmaking.

Past Camera Club events include a panel discussion with Director Jeff Johnson, Photographer Ben Moon, and Rivian Creative Director Larry Parker about their short documentary The Lucky Ones, as well as an ongoing “Directors’ Workshop” series that unpacks the process of commercial filmmaking.

Zach Lowry is a documentary photographer and DOP currently based in Pioneertown, CA. Focusing on issues of human rights, political revolution, and conflict, he has documented both armed and environmental conflicts in Iraq, Syria, and India. As a result of his travels to Mosul, Iraq in July 2017 to document the impending liberation of the city, Lowry published a book, Last Days of Mosul. His work from the same trip was featured at a New York City gallery in a philanthropic exhibition to benefit a frontline medical NGO.

Zach’s work and approach challenged and inspired me to examine how I am using my talents for good.”
